Sandra Barnes
Sandra Kay (Newton) Barnes, 74, of Bloomington, Illinois, passed away on Friday, April 28, 2017 at 4:44 p.m. at OSF St. Joseph Medical Center, Bloomington.
A celebration of her life will be held on Tuesday, May 2, at 6 p.m. at the Centennial Christian Church, Bloomington, IL, with Rev. Neal Kentch officiating. Cremation rites will be accorded with a burial held at a later date at the Mt. Horeb Baptist Cemetery, Orleans, Indiana.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Children’s Miracle Network, where Sandra volunteered for many years.
Calvert & Metzler Memorial Home is in charge of arrangements.
Sandra was born on January 12, 1943 in Alexandria, Ind., the daughter of Harlan L. and Leona E. (McCutchan) Hill.
Sandra is survived by her children: Thomas Richard (Kim) Newton Jr. of Spring, Texas, Kelly Lynn (Chip) Holtkamp of Fulton, Mo. and Kimberly Ann (Ron) Castleman of Idaho, Springs, Col; her grandchildren: John and Michael Holtkamp, Madison and Regan Newton, Casandra and Cheyenne Castleman; her sister: Jewel Ann (Wayne) Beasley of Orleans, Ind.; her partner in life: Richard Tarter and her children’s father: Thomas Richard Newton, Sr.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister: Lynn Hill.
She was retired but had worked most recently for Tarter Construction. Prior to that she worked at Dr. Ballard’s office, GTE, and Portable Elevator in Bloomington.
Sandra was very active in her community and as a member of Centennial Christian Church of Bloomington where she served as an Elder and Worship Chair. She was also a member of Rotary, a Life Member of Eastern Star, and a member of the American Legion Auxiliary. Her passion was singing, directing and coaching with her sisterhood of friends in Sweet Adelines International.
