ST. LOUIS – For the second week in a row, Jordan de los Reyes was named the MVC’s softball Player of the Week as announced by the conference office Monday.

This is de los Reyes’ third honor and seventh honor for the Redbirds this season. She made history as the Illinois State career home run record holder, totaling 54 home runs – four away from the Missouri Valley record. The senior belted at least one home run in each game last week, recording an astounding 2.375 slugging percentage. During her 6-for-8 week, the East Moline-native drove in 14 RBIs off five extra-base hits and three sac-flies. De los Reyes upped her 2017 total to 66 RBIs, surpassing the Illinois State single-season record by 10.

The senior began the week with two sacrifice hits and a two-run home run at Bradley. De los Reyes continued to dominate at the plate, driving in five runs in each game at Evansville. She was a perfect 3-for-3 in game one with one home run and a double before going 2-for-3 with her record-breaking home runs. The catcher was also perfect behind the plate, logging 11 outs and one assist.

Northern Iowa’s Alyssa Buchanan and Sammey Bunch earned the leagues pitcher and newcomer weekly accolades.

The Illinois State softball team resumes play on Saturday at Wichita State for a three-game series against the Shockers.

Pritzker, recall another Illinois Governor who protested the incursion of armed federal personnel into the city.   Those federal troops, rather than calming, escalated the situation, leading to deaths and violence. In these troubled times, to my fellow white Americans

African-Americans have been killed too many times in the past before George Floyd, but the response to this man’s death is international and all-encompassing. I was a grade-schooler during the Civil Rights 1960s. I watched Birmingham demonstrators hosed and the Selma – Montgomery…

Workers’ Memorial Day – Remember those whose job took their life

Looking around our community, when we say employer, most will respond to State Farm, Country, or Illinois State University.   We too often forget those who are building our roads, serving our food, or our public employees. COVID-19 has made us more aware of the risk.  Going to work every day for some people means…
