Casey’s Garden Center is blooming

By Patti Penn

Every other Wednesday when I hear the University of Illinois Extension Office Master Gardener’s on WJBC, I am reminded that Casey’s Garden Shop and Florist puts the bloom in Bloomington.

On a recent visit to Casey’s I was blown away by the many selections that can be made for your home and garden.  Casey’s carries everything…bird seed, squirrel corn, potted annuals, hanging baskets and a full line of water plants to cut flowers, water plants, bulbs, fertilizer and statuary.

Casey’s also has beautiful indoor decorative items including unique ornament collections, fairy garden supplies, succulent plants and decorative planters. And on the day that I was there…..I was intrigued by the wedding room created for excited brides and grooms completed with internet access so they can hop on Pinterest and other social media sites while they consult with Casey’s staff to help articulate the memories they are trying to create for their special day!

Casey’s has been a hometown favorite since 1949 and it’s easy to see why.  If you haven’t been to Casey’s in a while it’s time to return to sneak-a-peak and put some bloom back into your life!

Labor Day – Expanding voting rights for all

Is federal mobilization the answer?

By Mike Matejka As President Donald Trump threatens to send federal marshals into Chicago, over the objections of Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker, recall another Illinois Governor who protested the incursion of armed federal personnel into the city.   Those federal troops, rather than calming, escalated the situation, leading to deaths and violence. Illinois poet Vachel Lindsay…

In these troubled times, to my fellow white Americans

By Mike Matejka Our nation is at a unique watershed in human relations. African-Americans have been killed too many times in the past before George Floyd, but the response to this man’s death is international and all-encompassing. I was a grade-schooler during the Civil Rights 1960s. I watched Birmingham demonstrators hosed and the Selma – Montgomery…

Workers’ Memorial Day – Remember those whose job took their life

Looking around our community, when we say employer, most will respond to State Farm, Country, or Illinois State University.   We too often forget those who are building our roads, serving our food, or our public employees. COVID-19 has made us more aware of the risk.  Going to work every day for some people means…
