WASHINGTON – U.S. Sen. Dick Durbin, D-Ill., is weighing in on the Trump Administration firing of FBI Director James Comey.
Durbin released a statement expressing his concerns about the investigation of possible Russian involvement in the Presidential Election and “whether the investigation of any collusion or involvement by the Trump campaign will also be investigated by the FBI.
“Any attempt to stop or undermine this FBI investigation would raise grave constitutional issues,” Durbin said.
He added something smells fishy about this week’s French presidential election, even though the outcome appeared to be unaffected by outside meddling and a cyberattack days before the vote.
“Who do expects suspect was behind this cyberattack trying to manipulate another western election, trying to foster mistrust in that nations Democratic institutions? Not surprisingly, Russia.”
U.S. Sen. Tammy Duckworth, D-Ill, reiterated her call for an independent investigation into the Trump administration’s ties to Russia:
“It is not clear why Attorney General Sessions, who previously claimed he would recuse himself from all Russia-related matters, was involved in firing the law enforcement official leading the Russia investigation. There are simply too many questions raised by tonight’s actions, and the American people deserve nothing less than answers from an independent investigator.”
