Towanda, Parkinson avenues in Normal to close; University Street closes early

NORMAL – Towanda Avenue south of Ironwood Country Club Drive will be closed to through traffic beginning at 7 a.m. Friday and remain closed until 5 p.m. Tuesday, weather permitting, for replacement of the Ironwood Golf Course cart path tunnel that runs between holes 10 and 11.

Access to Ironwood Golf Course will be available only from the south via Towanda Avenue. Access to Ironwood Country Club Drive will be available only from the north via Northtown Road and Towanda Avenue. Access to Towanda Avenue south of Ironwood Country Club Drive, Turtle Creek Country Club Court, Sterling Glen Country Club Court, Asbury Farms Country Club Court, and Tanger Country Club Court will only be available from the south via Towanda Ave.

Parkinson Avenue and the Parkinson parking lot at the old Amtrak station will be closed beginning early Friday morning until late afternoon Saturday. The closure is to accommodate preparation and hosting the Children’s Discovery Museum’s Pushcart Derby.

University Street and University Court from Willow Street to Bowles Street are now closed to through traffic until further notice for a water main replacement project. Local traffic only is permitted in the area. This closure was originally scheduled for May 22, but work has started early.
