BLOOMINGTON – One month after the Bloomington Thunder promoted Dan Jewell to general manager, he’s taking a coaching job in the Division One college ranks.
Jewell has been named as assistant coach at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) in Troy, New York. Jewell was also an assistant coach on the Thunder staff and had been with the club since 2014.
“With the hockey offseason in full swing, now is the time of year when a lot of coaching positions become available,” head coach Mike Watt said. “We’re excited to see Dan fill one of those openings and take the next step in his coaching career. We wish him nothing but the best in the future.”
Watt, who the Thunder promoted to head coach last month, will assume the role of general manager too.
Jewell helped 25 players earn scholarships to play Division I college hockey during this three seasons with the Thunder.
The Thunder have already begun the search for an assistant coach to complete the coaching staff for the 2017-18 season.
