ISU women’s basketball finalizes recruiting class with Saylor signing

NORMAL – The Illinois State women’s basketball program finalized its 2017 recruiting class with the signing of Paige Saylor, head coach Kristen Gillespie announced Thursday.

Saylor, who hails from Martinsville, Indiana, played four years of varsity basketball at Roncalli High School in Indianapolis. The 5-foot-5 guard averaged 13.3 points, 5.9 assists and 4.0 steals per game as a senior while being named to the Indiana Basketball Coaches Association/Subway “Supreme 15” Team and earning All-Marion County and All-Circle City Conference accolades. Saylor, who also participated in the 2017 North/South Indiana All-Star Classic, played in 98 career games and finished as the program’s career assist leader with 419. She is also the only player in Roncalli history with over 400 assists and 300 steals (314). Saylor played in 75 victories, which ranks third in school history.

“We are thrilled to add Paige as our final piece for the upcoming season,” Gillespie said. “She is a dynamic point guard who is a fearless competitor and is the epitome of a floor general.”

A standout on the track as well, Saylor was the 2017 Indiana State High School Athletic Association state champion in the long jump, with a school-record leap of 19-1.25, and also claimed the conference and regional championship. Overall, Saylor was a three-time state qualifier in the both the long jump and the 4×100, and was an all-state performer in the long jump as a junior after placing sixth at the state meet while also claiming the sectional and regional titles. She also qualified for the state meet as a freshman in the 100-meter dash with a school-record time of 12.49 seconds.
