SPRINGFIELD – The Illinois Department of Revenue has general information regarding how much more you’ll have to pay the state in income taxes.

The changes that went into effect retroactive to July 1 also change various credits, deductions and additions to income. IDOR spokesman Terry Horstman said taxpayers should review their website Tax.Illinois.Gov for how the change impacts them.

Employers will also need to update withholding amounts for employees’ paychecks.

“It’s been our experience in the past that the employers come into compliance very quickly once information and guidance is provided to them and they begin remitting the money,” Horstman said.

The website also includes information about other changes such as an increase in the state earned income tax credit and a new credit for teachers who spend their own money on classroom supplies.

I was a grade-schooler during the Civil Rights 1960s. I watched Birmingham demonstrators hosed and the Selma – Montgomery…

Workers’ Memorial Day – Remember those whose job took their life

Looking around our community, when we say employer, most will respond to State Farm, Country, or Illinois State University.   We too often forget those who are building our roads, serving our food, or our public employees. COVID-19 has made us more aware of the risk.  Going to work every day for some people means…
