Murieldene AshleyMurieldene Ashley

Murieldene Ashley, 92 of Bloomington, Ill., passed away on Wednesday, August 9, 2017 at 3:10 a.m. at the Martin Health Center, Bloomington.

Murieldene’s service will be held on Saturday, August 12, 2017 at 11 a.m. at Wesley United Methodist Church, Bloomington with Rev. Keith Ferguson officiating. Following the service burial will take place at the Evergreen Memorial Cemetery, Bloomington. Visitation will be held on Saturday from 10-11 a.m. at the church.

Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or Wesley United Methodist Church, Bloomington.

Calvert & Metzler Memorial Home is in charge of arrangements.

Murieldene was born on November 3, 1924 at Waynesboro, Mississippi, the daughter of Earlie and Minnie Mae (Britton) Ferguson. She married Winfred B. Ashley on January 26, 1946 in Laurel, MS. He preceded her in death on June 25, 2007.

She is survived by her children; Michael (Mary) Ashley of Naperville, Ill., Sandra (Wayne) Stringham of Carol Stream, Ill. and David (Terri) Ashley of Bloomington, grandchildren; Sean Ashley of Macomb, Ill., Ashley (Sam) Buscher of Bartlett, Ill., Jennifer Stringham of Port Wentworth, Ga., Christopher (Amanda) Ashley of Troy, Mich. and Joshua Ashley of San Jose, Calif.

She is preceded by her parents and one sister, Myrtle Grace Ferguson.

Murieldene worked at State Farm Insurance Company in Statistical Services. She was an active member of Wesley United Methodist Church where she participated in the Faith Circle and volunteered with producing the monthly newsletter and volunteered at the Home Sweet Home Mission. She enjoyed oil painting, ceramics (in which she taught classes out of her home), reading and current events. In her younger days she and her husband enjoyed taking dance classes and dancing at the Tiara Ballroom and later after retirement they enjoyed traveling across the United States and Canada.

Murieldene was a loving mother and a devoted grandmother. She will be dearly missed by all of them.

Pedro Chavez

Pedro Chavez, 88 of Bloomington, passed away on Thursday, August 10, 2017 at 6 a.m. at Aperion Care Bloomington.

Pedro’s service will be held on Monday, August 14, 2017 at 10 a.m. at Calvert & Metzler Memorial Home, Bloomington with Rev. Richard Gray officiating. Following the service burial will take place at Scogin Hill Cemetery, Bloomington. Visitation will be held on Sunday, August 13, 2017 from 4-6 p.m. at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the family or American Cancer Society.

Pedro was born on December 20, 1928 in Bloomington, the son of Pedro and Grace Chavez Sr. He married Zola Moore on September 13, 1960 in Bloomington.

He is survived by his wife, Zola of Bloomington, a sister, Delores Campbell of Bloomington and numerous nieces and nephews.

He retired in 1990 from OSF St. Joseph Medical after 39 years. After retirement Pedro enjoyed doing yard work around the home and gardening, and enjoyed watching Western Movies.

He will be dearly missed by all his family and friends.

Friedman FrancesFrances Friedman

Frances E. Friedman, 87 of Fairbury passed away at 9:40 p.m., Sunday, August 6, 2017 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center, Peoria.

Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Sunday, August 13, 2017 at Duffy-Pils Memorial Home, Fairbury. In lieu of flowers the family suggests that memorial contributions be directed to Fairbury American Legion Speedway, Fairbury or Livingston County Humane Society.

Cremation rites will follow the visitation with a private family graveside inurnment in Graceland Cemetery, Fairbury at a later date.

Frances was born February 7, 1930, in Chatsworth, a daughter to Claude C. and Mayme W. (Berlette) Wilson. She married Harold J. Friedman June 11, 1950, in Chatsworth. He died November 24, 1995.

Survivors include one daughter, Pamela (Tom) Hedrick of Fairbury; two sons, Roger (Janis) Friedman of Fairbury; Randy (Lisa) Friedman of Downs; three sisters, Lois Wallrich, Marilyn Dehm, both of Chatsworth; and Mary Lou West of Knoxville; one brother, Claude “Jr.” Wilson of Dwight; nine grandchildren, Daren (Kelly) Friedman, Eric (Kim) Friedman, Jeb (Niki) Friedman, Denver (Mindy) Hedrick, Brooke (Jason) Welborn, Beth (Chris) Mygatt, Kara (Andrew) Weber, Jasmine Bettis, Amanda Bettis and 18 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; five brothers and two sisters and one infant son, Virgil Allan Friedman.

Frances was an avid Chicago Bulls fan and loved her World Champion Cubs. She enjoyed local dirt track racing on Saturday nights in Fairbury. Her dog Maizie gave her great joy and comfort. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

Marilyn Leach

Marilyn Joyce Leach, 79, of Graymont, passed away at 10:45 p.m., August 10, 2017, at OSF St. Joseph Medical Center, Bloomington.

Her funeral will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, August 14, 2017, at 1st Lutheran Church, Pontiac.

Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery, Fairbury.

Visitation will be held from 9-11:00am on Monday at the church.

Duffy-Pils Memorial Home, Fairbury is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be made to 1st Lutheran Church, Pontiac or American Cancer Society.

Marilyn was born June 3, 1938, in Fairbury the daughter of Earl Carl and Edith Margaret Leonard Rabe.

She first married Richard Lee Doran on December 14, 1958, in Fairbury. He passed away in 1984. She then married Lyle E. Leach on June 9, 1990 in Fairbury. He survives.

Also surviving are her daughter, Lori Dee Doran-Breedlove, Peoria; sons, Scott Patrick Doran, Fairbury, and Ritchie Lee (Beth) Doran, El Paso; step-daughters, Keri (Tim) Lewis, Pontiac and Kathi (John) Daluga, Angola, IN; brother Leonard Rabe, Napa, CA; five grandchildren, five step-grandchildren, one great-grandchild and six step-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother.

Marilyn was a member of 1st Lutheran Church of Pontiac.

She is a 1956 graduate of Fairbury-Cropsey High School and later attended Marycrest Business College, Kankakee.

She was a secretary at Honegger’s and Company, Fairbury and later worked as a cook at Westview Grade School, Fairbury.

Marilyn was an animal lover with a fondness to horses.
