Normal West stuns defending champs in football opener

PEORIA – One year after Peoria posted 70 points in a season-opening win over Normal West, the Wildcats turned the tables on the defending Class 5A champions in a convincing 70-46 win at Peoria Stadium.

Genesis Forrest rushed for 264 yards on 23 carries and scored four touchdowns. His brother Armani Forrest scored touchdowns on all three of his carries totaling 70 yards and intercepted a pass in the win.

The Wildcats carried a 21-14 lead into halftime and scored touchdowns on their first seven possessions of the second half.

Peoria quarterback and University of Illinois recruit Caron Taylor threw for 230 yards and rushed for 153 and accounted for three Lion touchdowns.

Peoria outgained West 676-643.

Bloomington 60, Peoria Manual 6

Holden Snyder rushed for 177 yards and scored four touchdowns to lead the Purple Raiders to a win over the Rams at Fred Carlton Field.

Central Catholic 14, Pontiac 7

James Morris returned an interception 32 yards for a touchdown early in the fourth quarter for his second score of the game as the Saints defeated the Indians in the first matchup between new Illini Prairie rivals at Pontiac.

Normal Community 43, Urbana 8

Daylen Boddie threw for two touchdowns and ran for two more in his second career start at quarterback to lead the Ironmen to the win at Urbana. Boddie passed for 143 yards and rushed for 93 yards.

Springfield 42, U-High 21

The Senators scored six first-half touchdowns to roll to a victory over the Pioneers. Doug Holmes completed 18 of 39 passes for 267 yards and three touchdowns in U-High’s first game in the Central State Eight.
