Glenn Bradd

Glenn Colvin Bradd, 93, of Bloomington and formerly of Saybrook, died at 1:25 p.m., Saturday, September 9, 2017 at his home.

His funeral will be at 12:30 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 14, 2017 at Carmody-Flynn Funeral Home, Bloomington with his nephew, Rev. Stephen Bradd officiating. Burial will be in Drummer Township Cemetery, Gibson City with military rites accorded. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m., Wednesday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Bloomington-Normal YMCA, 602 S. Main St., Bloomington, IL 61701, where Glenn spent six mornings per week working out. Resting on the 7th day to attend church.

Glenn was born July 22, 1924, on a farm in Gibson City, the son of Clifford and Gladys (Colvin) Bradd. He was a veteran of World War II, serving the Marines as a Navy Corpsman. He served throughout the Pacific war zone, including Iwo Jima, Okinawa, Guam and was with the first ship of marines to enter Nagasaki two days after the atomic bomb.

After the war, Glenn returned to Illinois and attended auctioneer school, purchased a farm in Saybrook and was a breeder of Registered Angus Cattle.

At age 50 he became a Master Track and Field Runner, competing throughout the U.S. He ran the 400 Meter at age 64 setting a new World Record in the Masters. Twice he received the Master’s All American Award, one of those at the age of 80.

He was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars as well as the American Legion and Moose Lodge. Glenn loved to dance.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, the former Helen Heindselman.

Glenn is survived by five brothers, Gene (Cleo) Bradd, Earl (Jeanette Ball) Bradd, Robert (Kathy) Bradd, Ernie (Barbara) Bradd and Marvin (Carol) Bradd; his children, Mary Ellen (Verd) Bradd-Nommensen of Citrus Heights, Calif. and Wayne (Kate) Bradd of Lexington; grandchildren, Corey (Karen) Nommensen, Allen (Angie) Bradd and Eva Ree (Michael) Bradd-Fesi; and seven great-grandchildren, Christian, Justin, Dakota, Samantha, Logan, Dylan and Jerica.
