BLOOMINGTON – Police are seeking felony drunk driving charges against a Bloomington man in connection with a fatal hit-and-run crash in Bloomington Wednesday morning.

According to McLean County Jail records, Darin Scott, 54, was taken into custody shortly after the crash. Police say they arrested him at his home when they found a red minivan that matched the description of the vehicle at the crash scene.

Officers were called to Morrissey Drive near the intersection with Chrisman Lane shortly after 11:30 a.m. They found a female passenger dead and a male driver with serious injuries. McLean County Coroner Kathy Davis is expected to release the woman’s name following an autopsy Thursday. The man was taken to OSF St. Joseph Medical Center where his condition is not known.

Police say they had coincidentally received a tip from an anonymous caller before the crash that the driver had a history of drunk driving. McLean County court records show Scott was charged with DUI from a separate incident last month. That case is pending.

A large section of Morrissey Drive was closed for hours following the crash.

Bloomington Police’s Criminal Investigations Division is conducting the investigation. Police are asking anyone with information to call Detective Tim Power at (309) 434-2579 or McLean County Crime Stoppers at (309) 828-111. The Crime Stoppers organization offers rewards of up to $1,000 for information leading to an arrest and indictment.

Labor Day – Expanding voting rights for all

By Mike Matejka Because of COVID, there is no Labor Day Parade this year.  It’s always a great event for our everyday workers to march proudly down the street and enjoys the festive crowd. Is federal mobilization the answer?

By Mike Matejka As President Donald Trump threatens to send federal marshals into Chicago, over the objections of Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker, recall another Illinois Governor who protested the incursion of armed federal personnel into the city.   Those federal troops, rather than calming, escalated the situation, leading to deaths and violence. In these troubled times, to my fellow white Americans

By Mike Matejka Our nation is at a unique watershed in human relations. African-Americans have been killed too many times in the past before George Floyd, but the response to this man’s death is international and all-encompassing. I was a grade-schooler during the Civil Rights 1960s. I watched Birmingham demonstrators hosed and the Selma – Montgomery…

Workers’ Memorial Day – Remember those whose job took their life

Looking around our community, when we say employer, most will respond to State Farm, Country, or Illinois State University.   We too often forget those who are building our roads, serving our food, or our public employees. COVID-19 has made us more aware of the risk.  Going to work every day for some people means…
