Longtime Democratic leader Currie won’t seek reelection

CHICAGO – The Illinois General Assembly has its biggest departure since Senate Minority Leader Christine Radogno resigned early this summer.

State Rep. Barbara Flynn Currie, the longest serving woman in the history of the General Assembly and the first to serve as majority leader in the Illinois House of Representatives, has decided she won’t seek another term.

The 77-year-old Chicago Democrat, a top lieutenant to Speaker Michael Madigan, said age did not factor into her decision.
