Mildred R. Bateman
Mildred R. “Millie” Bateman, 94, Normal, Ill., died Thursday, Sept. 14, 2017 at Heartland Health Care, Normal.
Her graveside service will be 2 p.m., Saturday at Park Hill Cemetery, Bloomington with Rev. Kathy King-Nobles officiating. There will be no visitation. Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
Calvert & Metzler Memorial Home, Bloomington is in charge of arrangements.
Millie was the daughter of Bliss and Etta Mae Lester Faber. She married Robert P. Bateman on Feb. 25, 1944 in Clinton, Ill.. He died Nov. 8, 2000.
Survivors include a sister, Bonnie (Rex) Souders, Huntingdon, Tenn. and 5 great nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, (her mother lived with Bob and Millie for several years) and a niece.
After graduation from high school, Millie was secretary to the Maroa High School principal and school board for five years. She then went on to graduate from Dickinson Secretarial School, Decatur, Ill. Millie completed 44 years, at State Farms corporate headquarters in Bloomington, retiring as Senior Actuarial Specialist.
Millie was a member of First United Methodist Church, Normal and its Vesper Circle. She was also a member of the Bloomington Emblem Club, Eastern Star, Bloomington Woman’s Club and Home Sweet Home Mission Auxiliary. She was also a volunteer for Neighborhood Watch and a 12-year volunteer at OSF Medical Center, Bloomington.
In retirement Millie and Bob traveled extensively in Europe and as avid Cub fans, often wintered in Mesa, Ariz. for Cubs preseason practice.
