Woman, 25, dies in I-74 crash

PEORIA – A 25-year-old woman was killed in a crash Thursday on Interstate 74 northwest of Normal.

It was one of several crashes that snarled traffic in that area for hours late Thursday.

Peoria County Coroner Jamie Harwood says Rachel Dean of Normal was pronounced dead at 7:22 p.m. at OSF HealthCare Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria.

Authorities says it appears the vehicle Dean was driving eastbound on I-74 near Mitsubishi Motorway left the road, went through a guardrail and landed in a ditch.

The crash happened shortly after 3:30 p.m. and tied up traffic for hours.
