ISU’s Jankiewicz named MVC Freshman of Week for 2nd straight week

ST. LOUIS – For the second week in a row and the third time this year, Illinois State’s Stef Jankiewicz has been named the Missouri Valley Conference Volleyball Freshman of the Week, the league announced Monday.

Jankiewicz, a freshman setter from Farmington Hills, Mich., continued to direct Illinois State’s offense over the past week, averaging 11 assists per set over three matches. Jankiewicz dished out a match-high 55 assists in the Redbirds’ five-set match against Drake on Friday, marking the fifth time this season she’s topped 50 assists in a match. Jankiewicz also averaged 2.33 digs per set over the past week, while chipping in eight kills and three aces.

Jankiewicz currently leads the Redbirds in assists per set (10.46), ranking third in The Valley. The freshman setter also ranks third on the team in digs (166), digs per set (2.44) and total blocks (30).

Jankiewicz and the Redbirds are back in action this weekend at Redbird Arena, hosting Loyola Chicago on Friday and MVC newcomer Valparaiso on Saturday.
