Sandra Houser

Sandra Kay Houser, 74, Fairbury, Ill., died at 9:50 p.m Wednesday, Oct. 4, 2017 at Fairview Haven Retirement Community, Fairbury.

A funeral service will be held at 12 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 7, 2017 at Duffy-Pils Memorial Home, Fairbury with Pastor Brian King officiating. Burial will be in Chatsworth City Cemetery, Chatsworth, Ill. The family has requested that all in attendance dress in casual attire.

Visitation will be 11-11:45 a.m. Saturday also at the memorial home. The family suggest memorials be given to the Sandra Kay Houser memorial fund.

Mrs. Houser was born Dec. 30, 1942 in Fairbury, Ill., the daughter of Roy and Bertha Crews Sleeth. She married Bobby Houser. He preceded her in death on 1974.

Survivors include two daughters, Ullena (Danny) Offenbacker, Forrest; Dawn Hamilton, Fairbury; one son, Bobby (Angie) Houser, Branson, MO; nine grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents, one granddaughter, Tiffany; one grandson, Bobby; one son-in-law, Chris Hamilton and two sisters.

Delores McGuireDelores McGuire

Delores McGuire, 83, of Bloomington, passed away at 7:30 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 3, 2017 at her daughter’s home in Cicero, Ind.

Her funeral will be at 10 a.m., Monday, Oct. 9, 2017 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Bloomington with Rev. Joseph Baker officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Bloomington, Ill. Visitation will be from 3-5 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 8, 2017 at Carmody-Flynn Funeral Home, Bloomington.

Memorials may be directed to St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Bloomington.

Delores was born March 21, 1934 in Bloomington, the daughter of Joseph N. and Aretta Webb Petrie. She married Michael J. “Mick” McGuire on May 17, 1952 in Bloomington. He preceded her in death on Feb. 3, 2012.

Survivors include two daughters, Melanie (Darwyn) Gilmore of Cicero, Ind. and Lisa (Bob) Dearth of Harrodsburg, Ky.; a son, Bryan McGuire of Bloomington; five grandchildren, Aaron (Chanda) Gilmore of Arcadia, Ind., Jennifer (Nic) Chaput of Granger, Ind., Molly (Jon) May of Camby, Ind., Megan Dearth of Harrodsburg, Ky. and Nick Gilmore of Cicero; five great grandchildren, Collin Gilmore, Addison Gilmore, Logan Chaput and Nolan Chaput; a sister, Aretta (Jim) Malinowski of Bloomington; an uncle, John (Ann) Petri of Bloomington; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one grandson.

Delores had worked for Eureka Williams Co., Spiegel’s Department Store and retired in 1994 as a claims adjuster for State Farm Insurance.

Delores was a member of the Loaves and Fishes Soup Kitchen at St. Mary’s Church, the American Hungarian Family Society and the McLean County Riding Club. She enjoyed basket making, scrapbooking, knitting, horses and genealogy.

Elizabeth McGuire

Elizabeth McGuire, 87 of Towanda, passed away at her home with her family by her side on Thursday, October 5, 2017 at 3:50 p.m.

Her service will be held on Monday, October 9, 2017 at 10 a.m. at Calvert & Metzler Memorial Home, Bloomington with Rev. Jack Moody officiating. Following the service burial will be held at East Lawn Memorial Gardens, Bloomington. Visitation will be held on Sunday, October 8, 2017 from 2-4 p.m. at the funeral home.

The family suggests memorials to be made to the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Memphis, TN.

Calvert & Metzler Memorial Home is in charge of arrangements.

Elizabeth was born on January 31, 1930 in McLean County, Illinois. She is the daughter of Eugene Raymond and Elizabeth (Goins) Miller. She married Richard McGuire on March 31, 1955 in Normal.

She is survived by her husband Richard, her son Mark (Ann) McGuire, grandson; Matt McGuire and brothers and sister; Emil (Christa) Miller, Orville “Cap” (Rita) Miller and Shirley Hinthorn. She is preceded in death by her parents, two brothers and one sister.

Elizabeth worked at GE for 33 years retiring in 1990. She is a member of the First Baptist Church of Towanda, American Legion Women’s Auxiliary and Bloomington WOTM chapter 173. She was an avid collector of all things and enjoyed going to antique malls, auctions and garage sales. Most of all her passion and love was taking care of her family and extended family. She will be deeply missed by all.

Thomas Van DevenThomas Van Deven

Thomas E. Van Deven, 66, of Normal, passed away at 1:45 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 4, 2017 at his home.

His funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m., Tuesday, Oct. 10, 2017 at Epiphany Catholic Church, Normal with Rev. Eric Powell officiating. Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, Normal. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m., Monday, Oct. 9, 2017 at Carmody-Flynn Funeral Home, Bloomington with a Rosary service at 7 p.m.

Memorials may be made to the Gastric Cancer Foundation.

Tom was born Jan. 20, 1951 in St. Louis, Mo., the son of Francis Henry and Florence Gloria Hass Van De Ven. He married Mary Catherine Bellino on March 26, 1977 in St. Louis, Mo. She survives.

He is also survived by two sons, Robert (Angela) Van Deven of Heyworth and Thomas Van Deven of Pittsfield, Mass.; two grandchildren, Mackenzie and Gianna Van Deven; his mother, Florence Vandeven of Rolla, Mo.; a brother, Frank (Peggy) Van Deven of St. Paul, Mo.; a sister, Linda (Bill) Sands of Rolla, Mo. and a sister-in-law, Agatha Van de Ven of Weaverville, N.C.

He was preceded in death by his father, a brother, Stephen Van Deven and a son, Garret Thomas Van Deven.

Tom received a degree in Accounting from the University of Missouri at St. Louis. He retired after many years as a Certified Internal Auditor for the U.S. Department of Energy. In spite of the challenges of the job, he persevered to support his family and stressed to his family that they pursue a career that they love.

Tom was a devoted baseball coach and was inducted into the Westmont Youth Baseball Hall of Fame for his many years of coaching. Since his youth, Tom was an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed fishing and hunting with his family, friends and Beagles.

Tom had a strong faith and served as a greeter at Notre Dame Parish in Clarendon Hills. Here in Normal, he served as captain of his Neighborhood Watch program and was loved and respected as such.

Strong values were very important to Tom and he instilled in them a strong work ethic and timeliness. He prayed his boys and grandchildren be strong and true and keep the faith.

Pat WalshPat Walsh

Luella “Pat” Walsh, 85, of Normal, Ill., passed away at 9 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 3, 2017 at her home.

Her graveside service will be at 10 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 14, 2017 at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Bloomington, Ill., with Deacon Joe Knapp officiating. Carmody-Flynn Funeral Home, Bloomington is assisting the family with arrangements.

Pat was born February 1, 1932 in Escanaba, Mich., the daughter of Albert J. and Myrtle D. Veraghen Valind. She married Francis J. Walsh on Feb. 5, 1955 in Bloomington. He preceded her in death on Aug. 24, 2015.

She is survived by seven children, Timothy (Marcia) Walsh of Bloomington, Mary (Bruce) Cope of Stanford, Ill., Daniel Walsh of Bloomington, Matthew (Jill) Walsh of Bloomington, Susan (Marlon) Kelch of Normal, Douglas (Rhonda) Walsh of Gilbert, Ariz. and Thomas (Rhonda) Walsh of Normal; 23 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren; three sisters, Audrey Shepeck, Mary Kay Hugo and Jeanne Howard and two brothers, Larry Valind and Michael Valind; and many nieces and nephews.

Pat received her nursing degree from St. Francis School of Nursing in Peoria, Ill., and worked as an O.B. nurse at St. Joseph Hospital in Bloomington for many years.

Pat’s favorite past time was reading the bible and spending time with her prayer partners. She loved her grandchildren and great grandchildren and enjoyed telling others about them.
