BLOOMINGTON – Illinois Wesleyan didn’t seem phased by Carroll’s pregame switch to a freshman quarterback who hadn’t played a down in college.

The Pioneers’ Michael Johnson was under constant pressure and threw two interceptions in his debut as the No. 11 Titans pulled away in the second half for a 30-0 homecoming win in College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin play at Tucci Stadium.

Morgan Alexander’s 14-yard touchdown run early in the second quarter provided the only scoring of the first half as Carroll stalled on a four down at the Titan 15 in the final minute of the half.

Wesleyan scored on four of its five second half possessions, with Brandon Bauer throwing three touchdown passes. Brauer completed 16 of 25 passes for 228 yards.

Jack Healy caught seven passes for 72 yards and a score.

The victory marks the Titans’ second shutout this season. Wesleyan has gone six years without a shutout before blanking North Park on Sept. 23.

The Titans (6-1, 4-1 in the CCIW) host Carthage on Oct. 21.

Pritzker, recall another Illinois Governor who protested the incursion of armed federal personnel into the city.   Those federal troops, rather than calming, escalated the situation, leading to deaths and violence. Illinois poet Vachel Lindsay…

In these troubled times, to my fellow white Americans

By Mike Matejka Our nation is at a unique watershed in human relations. African-Americans have been killed too many times in the past before George Floyd, but the response to this man’s death is international and all-encompassing. I was a grade-schooler during the Civil Rights 1960s. I watched Birmingham demonstrators hosed and the Selma – Montgomery…

Workers’ Memorial Day – Remember those whose job took their life

Looking around our community, when we say employer, most will respond to State Farm, Country, or Illinois State University.   We too often forget those who are building our roads, serving our food, or our public employees. COVID-19 has made us more aware of the risk.  Going to work every day for some people means…
