BLOOMINGTON – Active duty personnel and veterans will be eligible to adopt a cat or dog free of charge this Veteran’s Day at the local Humane Society of Central Illinois.
Humane Society Development Director Madonna Courtright says people need to fill out the applications and bring an identification card in order to adopt on November 11.
“You have to do the paperwork and you have to prove eligibility,” Courtright explained. “You have to have a Military ID, a Veterans ID, or some kind of discharge paperwork in order to make this happen.”
Courtright also said veterans and service people should come the day before to make sure they’ll have what they need to solidify the adoption process.
“If you came the day before, check things out, brought in your application, then come back on Veteran’s Day to do the transaction, you’d probably be good to go,” said Courtright.
Courtright also explained that no tax dollars are being used to cover adoption fees.
The Human Society of Central Illinois is located at 423 Kays Drive in Normal.
