BLOOMINGTON – The Baby Fold’s annual Festival of Trees has added a new opening day breakfast to help kick off the 24th annual event next month.

“This is a morning-heavy community that we have, people like to get up early, they like to have breakfast, so we are going to try something a little but different to keep it new and fresh,” Baby Fold Development and Public Relations Director Aimee Beam said.

Beam told WJBC’s Scott Laughlin more than 45 Christmas trees will be on display.

“It’s really become part of the fabric of the community,” Beam said. “Its’ more than just an event, it’s a happening and people count on it to start out the holiday season right.”

The Nov. 17-19 event at the Interstate Center in Bloomington is a fundraiser for the Christian-based non-profit. It’s goal is to raise $240,000.

Illinois poet Vachel Lindsay…

In these troubled times, to my fellow white Americans

By Mike Matejka Our nation is at a unique watershed in human relations. African-Americans have been killed too many times in the past before George Floyd, but the response to this man’s death is international and all-encompassing. I was a grade-schooler during the Civil Rights 1960s. I watched Birmingham demonstrators hosed and the Selma – Montgomery…

Workers’ Memorial Day – Remember those whose job took their life

Looking around our community, when we say employer, most will respond to State Farm, Country, or Illinois State University.   We too often forget those who are building our roads, serving our food, or our public employees. COVID-19 has made us more aware of the risk.  Going to work every day for some people means…
