Illinois State’s Evans named MVC Player of the Week

ST. LOUIS. – Illinois State junior guard Keyshawn Evans, following an all-tournament team honor at the Puerto Rico Tip-Off at Myrtle Beach, has been named the Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Week.

Evans averaged 22.3 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 4.0 assists per game for ISU in a week in which it went 2-1 with wins over South Carolina and Tulsa. Made 21-of-36 of his shots from the field, and 12-of-18 from long range. He came into the season with a career-high of 16 points and has bettered that in all four of the team’s games this season, including three games of 20 or more.

In the team’s win over South Carolina he made 3-of-6 from long range, and 8-of-11 from the free throw line, scoring 17 points while dishing out three assists and grabbing four rebounds. In 28 minutes against Boise State he went 8-of-13 from the field and 3-of-6 from long distance to lead the way for 21 points. In the weekend finale he scored a career-high 29 points, making 10-of-13 shots from the field and a perfect 6-for-6 from beyond the arc. He added five assists against the Golden Hurricane.

Evans currently ranks second in the MVC in scoring, third in assists, and leads the conference in three-point field goals made per game.

The Redbirds return to action on Wednesday, Nov. 22, when the squad hosts the Quincy Hawks in the 2017-18 regular season home opener. Tip-off for the game at Doug Collins Court at Redbird Arena is slated for 8 p.m.
