BLOOMINGTON – Brad Kruse’s jumper at the free throw line with 57 seconds left gave Carthage the lead in a 74-72 win over Illinois Wesleyan in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin at Shirk Center,
Nick Coleman’s right wing three-pointer with 1:36 to go put IWU in front 70-67, before the Red Men (4-2) end the game on a 7-2 run.
Brady Rose’s desperation would-be game winning three-point shot tantalized the rim before spinning out at the buzzer.
Carthage led for much of the game but never more than seven points. Kruse led Carthage with 20 points and 10 rebounds.
Rose paced the Titans with 24 points. Alex O’Neill added a career high 16 points and eight rebounds.. Jaylen Beasley led IWU with nine boards to go with three points.
IWU (5-1) visits Wheaton on Wednesday.
IWU women
The Titan women defeated Carthage 77-68 at Shirk Center, Maddie Merritt connected on 12 of 16 free throws to lead four Titans in double figures with 16 points. She also led Wesleyan with nine rebounds. IWU (4-2) will host Wheaton on Wednesday.
