Redbirds down Tulsa for 2nd time in 2 weeks

NORMAL – Illinois State men’s basketball led for nearly the entire contest and defeated the Tulsa Golden Hurricane for the second time in 13 days, 65-58 on Saturday afternoon on Doug Collins Court at Redbird Arena.

Illinois State (5-4) led by as much as 11 points in the first half and carried a 36-32 advantage at halftime. Tulsa (4-5) shrunk the lead and took a brief 49-47 lead with 8:31 to play, but the Redbirds quickly overcame the deficit and led the rest of the way.

Milik Yarbrough led the Redbirds with 22 points. Phil Fayne added 17 points and a team-high eight rebounds while Keyshawn Evans added 12 points. Junior Etou was the only Tulsa player in double-digit scoring with 10 points.

Illinois State travels to Brigham Young on Wednesday for an 8 p.m. Central tip-off. The Redbirds next return to Redbird Arena on Saturday at 3 p.m. against Murray State.
