ISU women’s basketball falls short to Butler

NORMAL – The Illinois State Women’s Basketball team dropped to Butler 56-45 on Sunday at Redbird Arena.

How It Happened

The Butler Bulldogs won possession, but were immediately stopped by the Redbird defense. Hannah Green opened the game up with a layup to put the Redbirds up 2-0. Butler responded with a jump shot and the teams were tied 2-2. Michelle Weaver sunk her first three-pointer with 7:35 in the first for the Bulldogs to take a 5-2 lead. Illinois State faced difficulty from the field and would only put up five points in the first quarter to trail 17-5.

The Redbirds began to find their rhythm in the second quarter and put up 11 points while Butler scored 14. Illinois State trailed at halftime 31-16.

The Redbirds battled back in the final quarter outscoring the Bulldogs 17-8. The Redbirds had trailed by as much as 20 points and were able to tighten the deficit to nine, but time was not in favor.  Butler had already pulled a significant lead and would finish on top 56-45.

  • The Redbirds put in six three-pointers today, which is the most they have scored in a single game this season.
  • Hannah Green added 18 points, eight rebounds and three blocks for the Redbirds. She is currently averaging 3.16 blocks per game and will likely remain at the top of conference standings as well as hold a spot in the top 10 in the nation.
  • Katrina Beck added a season high of 12 points today and grabbed six rebounds. Six of her points came from the three-point line.
  • Tori Schickel led for the Bulldogs with a double-double of 12 points and 11 rebounds. Michelle Weaver and Kristen Spolyar also added 12 points each.

Stat of the Game.

  • Butler averaged 71.5 points per game prior to today’s meeting. The Redbirds held them to 56 points bringing their new average to 69.7 points per game.

What’s Next
The Redbirds travel to Milwaukee to take on the 4-2 Panthers on Thursday, Dec. 7 and return home on Sunday to face Eastern Michigan at 2 p.m.
