Joy, Illinois popular place in December

JOY – Even though Joy, Illinois is not a major shopping hub, the small western Illinois town with a population of 385 continues to be a popular destination for mail during December.

Both U.S. and international patrons want their holiday cards and letters cancelled with a special Joy postmark.

“The design this year is just a snowman waiting,” Joy Post Office staffer Patti Maynard said. “It’s pretty simply and its’a a very good stamp to stamp on the card. It just has snowflakes on a snowman.

This year’s special postmark is designed by Mercer County Junior High eighth grader Preston Howard.

Letter can be sent to the Joy Post Office at P.O. Box 9998, Joy, Ill., zip code 61260.
