Illinois Wesleyan ranks No. 39 in Learfield Sports Directors’ Cup standings

BLOOMINGTON – Illinois Wesleyan University is No. 39 of 190 schools in the final set of fall rankings in the Division III Learfield Sports Directors’ Cup standings, as announced by the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics on Thursday.

In the final set of fall standings, the Titans have 125 points with 50 coming from the 17th place finish by the women’s soccer team, 50 coming from the volleyball team’s 17th place finish and 25 from the football team’s 17th place finish.

Johns Hopkins leads Division III with 383 total points with Massachusetts Institute of Technology in second with 319.50 points, Middlebury third with 301 points, and tied for fourth is St. Thomas (Minn.) and Wisconsin-LaCrosse both with 270 points.

Also from the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin, North Central is No. 28 (153 points), Wheaton is No. 40 (124 points) and North Park is No. 58 (90 points). Carthage is No. 78 (64 points) and Millikin is tied for No. 91 (50 points).

Seven fall NCAA Division III championships have been completed with the following champions: women’s cross country – Johns Hopkins; men’s cross country – North Central; field hockey – Middlebury; football – Mount Union; volleyball – Claremont Mudd Scripps; men’s soccer – Messiah; women’s soccer – Williams.

The Learfield Sports Directors’ Cup was developed as a joint effort between NACDA and USA Today. Points are awarded based on each institution’s finish in up to 18 sports in Division III – nine women’s and nine men’s.
