PEORIA – A young Central Illinois woman, badly hurt when her car collided with a box truck in eastern Tazewell County, remains in critical condition at Peoria’s OSF St. Francis Medical Center. However, Jamie Schick’s family is hopeful for her recovery after 7 1/2 hours of surgery on Friday.
Deer Creek Fire Rescue and the Eureka-Goodfield Fire Protection District removed Schick from the wreckage Wednesday on Dee Mack Road.
A family member updating a CaringBridge site said surgeons removed the packing on Schick’s liver without excessive bleeding. Doctors also treated other injuries, including several broken bones.
Family members are thankful because they say Schick won’t need separate surgeries.
They say Schick is still on a ventilator, and faces a very long recovery period.
