Illinois Wesleyan rolls over No. 2 Augustana

BLOOMINGTON – Brady Rose set the tone early scoring on several driving layups on his way to a 26-point performance as Illinois Wesleyan handled No. 2 Augustana, 72-53, in a College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin game at Shirk Center.

The Titans established early command on a series of baskets off dribble penetration by Rose and Colin Bonnett who added 14 points. The Titan backcourt also controlled the defensive end, holding Nolan Ebel and Dylan Sortillo to a combined 3-of-19  field goal shooting and seven points, a combined 19 below their averages.

The Titans’ Danny Baker scored eight points off the bench and added seven rebounds tying with him Alex O’Neill for team best.

IWU led 39-25 at the half. Augie would draw to with 43-35, before the Titans would score nine unanswered points including a Zach Knobloch three-pointer and layup on consecutive trips.

Jason Gregorire’s three-point play in the paint gave IWU its biggest lead at 65-42 with 7:35 to play.

IWU (10-3, 3-1 in the CCIW) will host Elmhurst on Saturday,
