BLOOMINGTON – A former Illinois State Redbird will be among the players leading the Cardinals Caravan this year.

Paul DeJong, who played 144 games during his time on ISU’s baseball team, will travel to 20 cities throughout Illinois, Missouri, Tennessee, Arkansas, Kentucky, and Indiana during the caravan.

Joining DeJong will be Tommy Pham, Greg Garcia, and Matt Bowman (among several others). Traveling with the current players are several top prospects such as Alex Reyes, Carson Kelly, and Harrison Bader, as well as Cardinals alumni like Randy Flores, Danny Cox, and Brad Thompson.

The 2018 Cardinals Caravan will take place January 12-15. At each stop, the first 400 kids, 15 years old or younger, who get through the door on the day of the event will receive a free autograph ticket, which guarantees one autograph from each current and former player.

The full schedule for the caravan, including destinations, times and participating players, can be found at cardinals.com/caravan.

Illinois poet Vachel Lindsay…

In these troubled times, to my fellow white Americans

By Mike Matejka Our nation is at a unique watershed in human relations. African-Americans have been killed too many times in the past before George Floyd, but the response to this man’s death is international and all-encompassing. I was a grade-schooler during the Civil Rights 1960s. I watched Birmingham demonstrators hosed and the Selma – Montgomery…

Workers’ Memorial Day – Remember those whose job took their life

Looking around our community, when we say employer, most will respond to State Farm, Country, or Illinois State University.   We too often forget those who are building our roads, serving our food, or our public employees. COVID-19 has made us more aware of the risk.  Going to work every day for some people means…
