Redbird women’s basketball defeated by Missouri Valley foe Missouri State

NORMAL, Ill. – Despite Paige Saylor’s perfect game, Illinois State Women’s Basketball fell to the Missouri State Bears 75-58.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Paige Saylor opened the game with 3-pointer to put the Birds ahead with 7:37 on the clock in the first. Missouri State responded with a 5-0 run to take their first lead, but were stopped as Hannah Green sank a jump shot. The teams battled back-and-forth until Simone Goods entered the game for the Redbirds. She put up eight points at the conclusion of the first quarter to keep the Birds in the lead at 15-11.

The Bears came out in the second quarter with a 9-0 run to push ahead 20-15. The Birds fought back, but could not overcome the deficit. Missouri State led at the halftime buzzer 36-25.

The Bears kept the lead throughout the entirety of the game and would finish on top 75-58.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

  • Three Redbirds scored in double digits today, Green (17), Saylor (15), Goods (14). Green also grabbed nine rebounds and dished out four assists. Her four assists ties a career high.
  • Viria Livingston grabbed 10 rebounds and added seven points for the Redbirds.
  • Four Bears scored in double digits today, the team was led by Liza Fruendt with 18 points.
  • This is the most points the Birds have allowed this season.

STAT OF THE GAME

  • Saylor DID NOT MISS. She shot 100 percent from the field, going 3-for-3 behind the arc and 6-for-6 from the field. The freshman point guard also dished out three assists.
