SPRINGFIELD – Illinois’ own Brett Eldredge will turn this year’s Illinois State Fair into a homecoming.

Eldredge will be the headliner at the grandstand stage on Aug. 17.

Acting State Fair Manager Luke Sailer said Eldredge is a great fit, especially because he remains true to his Illinois roots.

“This is his first major headlining tour, Sailer said of the Edgar County native who named his dog Edgar. “He just seems like a real down to earth guy and we are so glad to welcome our Illinois brother back to the Illinois State Fair.”

Sailer added Eldredge also gets high marks for fan friendliness.

“I’m personally a fan, not only of country music but also of Brett Eldredge as well. He does something almost every night on Instagram, Facebook, Snapchat. He really gets his fans engaged.”

An opening act has not been announced. Fair officials say tickets will go on sale later this spring.

Illinois poet Vachel Lindsay…

In these troubled times, to my fellow white Americans

By Mike Matejka Our nation is at a unique watershed in human relations. African-Americans have been killed too many times in the past before George Floyd, but the response to this man’s death is international and all-encompassing. I was a grade-schooler during the Civil Rights 1960s. I watched Birmingham demonstrators hosed and the Selma – Montgomery…

Workers’ Memorial Day – Remember those whose job took their life

Looking around our community, when we say employer, most will respond to State Farm, Country, or Illinois State University.   We too often forget those who are building our roads, serving our food, or our public employees. COVID-19 has made us more aware of the risk.  Going to work every day for some people means…
