CLINTON – A single-vehicle crash in DeWitt County has killed a Clinton High School student.

DeWitt County Coroner Randy Rice said the accident occurred about 4:30 Thursday afternoon on Harold Point Road, north of Wapella.

The coroner said he’ll release the victim’s name after relatives are notified.

The coroner and DeWitt County Sheriff’s Department are investigating.

The high school kept its doors open Thursday evening, and staff and counselors were available to offer support, according to the Clinton school district’s Facebook page.

On its Twitter feed, the district said,”In difficult times like this, it is important that students come to school. We will have a lot of support available at school for students and staff alike. It is okay to grieve.”
