BLOOMINGTON – The City of Bloomington has used a combination of fee increases and other cuts to balance its budget.
The City Council on Monday night approved the $210 million spending plan that’s $4 million lower than this year’s budget.

“We’ve been struggling with that for a year or so because we were about $3 million out of budget,” Interim city manager Steve Rasmussen said.
The city is hiking dozens of fees for city services including trash while cutting back on bulk waste pickup and delaying the filling of vacancies in city government for 90 days.
Alderman David Sage cast the only ‘no’ vote.
The new budget takes effect May 1.
