A local organization is headed to the Lone Star State.
The Midwest Food Bank is set to open a new location in the Dallas Fort-Worth Texas area.
The new Texas location will be very similiar to Bloomington’s model.
Midwest Food Bank’s David Kieser says though replicating the model is not an easy process, it is worth the effort when he thinks of the impact it will have on those in need.
“The people we serve are real,” says Kieser, “they are just like me and you. Unfortunate circumstances effect families and individuals and for them to suffer alone, without assistance, is just not right. We feel like if we can make a difference there we can. It’s not easy, but the hurdles aren’t that high that we can’t get over them.”
This will be the eighth Midwest Food Bank in the United States, with two locations overseas in East Africa and Haiti.
Kieser says he is touched by the amount of people that help make the organization flourish, not just locally, but all around the world.
“We have have 23,000 volunteers nationwide. That means for every staff member, we have 700 volunteers. That is just a tremendous ratio of people that are involved and willing to help and it really means a lot to us,” says Kieser.
The Midwest Food Bank distributes food without cost to over 1,400 not-for-profit pantries and social services to various locations in the U.S. and overseas.
