BLOOMINGTON – Police in Bloomington are investigating the city’s seventh homicide of 2018.
Bloomington police said Quantez Brown, 24, died after being stabbed before 2 a.m. near the intersection of Roosevelt and Market streets.
Police took Leila Jackson, 22, into custody on an initial charge of aggravated battery as prosecutors consider additional charges after Brown’s death.
Police said Brown and Jackson are both from Bloomington and knew each other, but had no other details about their relationship.
“We want to say acquaintances so we can at least tell the public that these individuals weren’t just random, or this wasn’t a random stabbing that occurred,” said BPD spokesman Elias Mendiola.
Police are still investigating and ask anyone with information to contact Detective Jared Roth at 309-434-2379 or Detective Curt Maas at 309-434-2534. Anonymous tips may be called to Crime Stoppers at 309-828-1111.
“In similar cases, there’s always been some information that has come forth after the arrest, and just because there’s an arrest made does not mean the case is complete,” Mendiola also said.
