BLOOMINGTON – The tens of thousands of motorists who drive on Veterans Parkway each day will soon see a major change in their commute.
The Illinois Department of Transportation said resurfacing of Veterans, from Washington Street to Clearwater Avenue, starts next Monday night and is expected to be completed in November.
“Very much-needed work,” said Jim Karch, Bloomington’s public works director.
“What we do ask is that during this time, it’s going to be inconvenient for people. Traffic is going to be more backed up on Veterans than you’re used to. So, just take that into account once they start construction. Allow for additional time or take an alternate route,” Karch said.
Karch recommended using other arterial roads during construction like Towanda Avenue and Regency Drive, west of Veterans, and Hershey Road to the East.
Rowe Construction will work from 9 p.m. to 7 a.m., beginning next week to minimize the impact. A single lane of traffic will remain open in each direction and at the Route 9 intersection.
A public meeting is scheduled Tuesday from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Eastland Suites and Conference Center for anyone who has questions or concerns about the project.
