SPRINGFIELD – If you want to honor the memory of fallen police officers, the Illinois Lottery will have a way for you to do it.

It’s a new scratch-off game whose proceeds will maintain police memorials, upgrade equipment, and give scholarships to survivors of those killed in the line of duty.

“There is no more noble profession anywhere in the world than that of being a police officer,” Gov. Rauner said at a bill-signing Monday. “Our police officers are our heroes. They put their lives on the line every day to keep the people of Illinois safe.”

The president of the Illinois Police Officers’ Memorial Committee, Sangamon County Sheriff’s Department retiree Dave Johnson, said the police memorial is the only statue on the Capitol grounds that is fully insured and cleaned annually.

Illinois poet Vachel Lindsay…

I was a grade-schooler during the Civil Rights 1960s. I watched Birmingham demonstrators hosed and the Selma – Montgomery…

Workers’ Memorial Day – Remember those whose job took their life

Looking around our community, when we say employer, most will respond to State Farm, Country, or Illinois State University.   We too often forget those who are building our roads, serving our food, or our public employees. COVID-19 has made us more aware of the risk.  Going to work every day for some people means…
