NAPERVILLE, Ill. – College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Commissioner Chris Martin says he will step away from that role at the end of the current academic year.
Martin has led the CCIW since 2002 when he became the league’s first full-time commissioner after spending five years at the NCAA national office. Martin says he is leaving the conference office to focus on his health issues.
Since taking over the commissioner’s role, Martin has added a second staff member to the conference office and added officials coordinators in six sports in addition to football and men’s and women’s basketball.
Also during his tenure, Martin helped with the addition of Carroll University as a full member in 2016, and created the associate member category, leading to the current six associate members. He also added three corporate partners and four sports equipment partners, and introduced a re-design of the CCIW website and logo.
The search for Martin’s replacement begins immediately.
