NORMAL – Unit 5’s newest school board member and two other recently appointed members have a common link. They were all members of the district’s Citizen’s Advisory Council.
Kelly Pyle, an academic advisor at Illinois State University and mother of two sons, said her involvement in the CAC opened her eyes to the district’s needs. For Pyle, it was a call to action.
“There’s more that I can do than just sit and listen and participate. I need to take action, and so I feel that’s where we were maybe compelled to want to be part of the school board,” Pyle said.
She assumed her new duties at the August 8 school board meeting. Pyle joins two other new members who were also involved in the CAC, Alan Kalitzky and Amy Roser.
All three will serve until local elections next spring.
Pyle said she’s ready for the public to hold her accountable on difficult issues.
“I feel like my job as a board member is to take the information, to learn, to ask good questions, to do my research, and make responsible decisions about the community and the resources that the school uses,” Pyle said.
