With four Intercity programs operating under new head coaches, high school football has a new look as the season opens Friday night.

Nathan Fincham at Normal West and Jason Drengwitz at Normal Community move up from assistant coach roles to the head position, Scott Godfrey takes over at Bloomington and Joe Walters moves from Bloomington to Central Catholic. Only second-year head coach John Johnson at U-High returns to the same position.

The WJBC Friday Night High School Football Extravaganza returns with six games on the docket, featuring Bloomington at Danville. Reports every quarter hour are from Normal Community at Peoria Richwoods, Peoria Notre Dame at Normal West, Sacred Heart-Griffin of Springfield at U-High, Tri-Valley at Decatur St. Teresa and Pontiac at Central Catholic.

The Pontiac-Central Catholic game from Bill Hundman Memorial Field can also be heard live on 98.9 WJEZ in Livingston County and worldwide at WJEZ.com.

The Extravaganza begins at 6:05 p.m. with scene setters, updates every quarter hour and post-game until 11 p.m. Updates can also be found on the WJBC Sports Twitter feed (@SportsWJBC, #WJBCHSFB).

Pritzker, recall another Illinois Governor who protested the incursion of armed federal personnel into the city.   Those federal troops, rather than calming, escalated the situation, leading to deaths and violence. Illinois poet Vachel Lindsay…

In these troubled times, to my fellow white Americans

By Mike Matejka Our nation is at a unique watershed in human relations. African-Americans have been killed too many times in the past before George Floyd, but the response to this man’s death is international and all-encompassing. I was a grade-schooler during the Civil Rights 1960s. I watched Birmingham demonstrators hosed and the Selma – Montgomery…

Workers’ Memorial Day – Remember those whose job took their life

Looking around our community, when we say employer, most will respond to State Farm, Country, or Illinois State University.   We too often forget those who are building our roads, serving our food, or our public employees. COVID-19 has made us more aware of the risk.  Going to work every day for some people means…
