NORMAL – The annual Chili Bowl football game between Normal West and Normal Community started spicy, but mellowed as NCHS scored five straight touchdowns in a 49-27 win in the featured contest of Week 2 of high school football.
Daylen Boddie led the victorious Ironmen (2-0) with 113 yards and four touchdowns on the ground and another 158 yards and a touchdown through the air. Connor Lay added 113 yards and two touchdowns to the Iron rushing attack.
Carson Camp threw for 296 yards and one touchdown for West (1-1), while Davion McQuirter added 105 rushing yards and a touchdown.
Prairie Central 40, Central Catholic 7
The host Hawks ran out to a 26-0 lead at halftime and implemented a running clock in the third quarter. Prairie Central had three rushers over 100 yards. Central Catholic quarterback Connor Boerm threw over 120 yards with a touchdown but two interceptions. The Saints mustered only 80 yards and two first downs in the first half.
Rochester 42, U-High 7
The defending Class 3A state champions were too much for the visiting Pioneers as Rocket quarterback Clay Bruno completed 15-of-24 through the air for 248 yards and three touchdowns, plus 36 rushing yards and a touchdown. The lone U-High touchdown came in the final minute as the Pioneers managed just over 100 yards of total offense.
El Paso-Gridley 42, Deer Creek-Mackinaw 22
Host EPG benefitted from 271 yards and four touchdowns from Ryan Faulk while quarterback Zach Herr carried 19 times for 121 yards and two touchdowns. Dee-Mack quarterback Zack Horve was 9-of-19 passing with two touchdowns and two interceptions with Caden Slack his top target with six catches for 124 yards and a touchdown. The Titans led 27-22 after three quarters before pulling away in the final chapter.
Tri-Valley 29, Fieldcrest 20
The Vikings used 14 carries and 184 yards from Zach Woodring to lead the way to the win in Minonk.
