BLOOMINGTON – People in south Bloomington were able to see flames and smoke shoot up into the air late Thursday night and early Friday morning because of a huge brush fire.
The brush was being turned into mulch at Henson Disposal and Recycling at 2148 Tri Lakes Rd., according to Bloomington Township Fire Chief Tom Willan.
“We had a 250 by 150 foot brush pile on fire. It was a lot of flame and a lot of smoke, but it’s nothing but a brush pile, and we put a lot of water on it,” said Willan.
Authorities blocked roads in the area so a hose could be connected from a hydrant at Hamilton Road and Bunn Street.
The cause of the blaze has not been determined. There were no injuries.
Firefighters got the call about 10:50 Thursday night. Downs, Dale and Randolph Townships were called to help Bloomington Township firefighters put out the fire.
