NORMAL – Normal police are investigating an incident which started as a fight and turned into gunshots being fired.
At about 3:20 AM Sunday officers were responding to reports of a fight in progress with a possibly armed suspect on Willow Street near University Court.
Upon arrival, officers worked to disperse a crowd that formed in the roadway of University Court, and while they were working, multiple fights broke out.
It is when attempting to break up these fights that officers heard what sounded like gunshots a short distance away on Willow Street.
They then responded to the 300 block of west Willow, where they found evidence that a handgun had been discharged, Normal Police Chief Rick Bleichner told the Pantagragh.
Officers searched the area but were unable to locate the individual who fired the gun.
Bleichner went on to say that the suspect is a black man in his late teens or early 20’s, approximately 6-feet tall, wearing a black and white hoodie and jeans.
This follows the alleged shooting that took place just north of downtown Bloomington early Saturday morning.
Both incidences remain under investigation.
