CHICAGO – Republican candidate for State Comptroller, Darlene Senger, said incumbent Democrat Susana Mendoza can’t have it both ways.

Senger is calling for Mendoza to drop out of the comptroller’s race now that a video has surfaced indicating Mendoza plans on running for Mayor of Chicago next spring.

The recording was first reported Friday by Chicago public radio station WBEZ.

“I’m Susana Mendoza, and I’m running for Mayor of Chicago. I’m asking you to join me on this journey together,” the comptroller said.

In a statement, Senger said it’s the “height of arrogance and hypocrisy to be running for two offices at the same time.”

Senger also called on Democratic House Speaker Michael Madigan and candidate for Governor J.B. Pritzker to tell Mendoza to get out of the race.

A Mendoza spokeswoman said the comptroller is still not sure whether she’ll run to replace Mayor Rahm Emanuel.

Mendoza’s political consultant said she agreed to record the video even though she hadn’t made up her mind. The consultant said someone leaked the video.

Labor Day – Expanding voting rights for all

Pritzker, recall another Illinois Governor who protested the incursion of armed federal personnel into the city.   Those federal troops, rather than calming, escalated the situation, leading to deaths and violence. Illinois poet Vachel Lindsay…

In these troubled times, to my fellow white Americans

By Mike Matejka Our nation is at a unique watershed in human relations. African-Americans have been killed too many times in the past before George Floyd, but the response to this man’s death is international and all-encompassing. I was a grade-schooler during the Civil Rights 1960s. I watched Birmingham demonstrators hosed and the Selma – Montgomery…

Workers’ Memorial Day – Remember those whose job took their life

Looking around our community, when we say employer, most will respond to State Farm, Country, or Illinois State University.   We too often forget those who are building our roads, serving our food, or our public employees. COVID-19 has made us more aware of the risk.  Going to work every day for some people means…
