BLOOMINGTON – A man found guilty of terrorizing a Bloomington couple on the city’s south side two years ago will likely serve the rest of his life behind bars.
McLean County Judge Casey Costigan on Friday sentenced Alfred Walker, 41, of Bloomington to 65 years in prison for shooting a man two years ago on Julie Drive, using duct tape to tie up a woman, and locking her in the trunk of her car.
Walker will have to serve 85 percent of his sentence, meaning he would have to live until his mid-90’s to be released from prison.
At a July bench trial, Costigan found Walker guilty of home invasion, armed robbery, aggravated battery with a firearm, and aggravated discharge of a firearm. Costigan acquitted Walker of attempted murder.
Pretending to be a pizza delivery man, authorities said Walker was with two other men in November 2016.They ordered the woman to call her husband and bound her with duct tape.
They locked her in the trunk when he arrived. The attackers demanded money and shot the man in the leg and arm, and pistol-whipped him in the face.
One of Walker’s accomplices died after the robbery. Authorities have yet to identify the third suspect.
