BLOOMINGTON – Getting around Illinois on Sunday will be difficult on one of the year’s busiest travel days.

The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory from three o’clock Sunday afternoon until 6 a.m. Monday for McLean, Woodford, Tazewell, and Peoria Counties, and from 9 p.m. Sunday to 9 a.m. Monday for Livingston County.

First, we’ll receive a dose of heavy rain, perhaps up to a half-inch of rain before 10 p.m. Rain changing to snow late, with wind gusts reaching 38 to 40 miles per hour, according to the weather service. The weather service predicts two to five inches of snow for McLean County. Two to four inches of snow accumulation is expected in Livingston County with wind gusts up to 45 miles per hour.

Conditions will be much worse to the north where winter storm warnings have been issued. The Chicago area, including Cook County, is expected to see snow accumulations up to 10 inches with localized amounts up to a foot.

All this as students return to return to campus after a week off for Thanksgiving.

Labor Day – Expanding voting rights for all

If there had been a parade, this year’s Labor Day theme was to be “150 years of struggle: your right to vote.” …

Pritzker, recall another Illinois Governor who protested the incursion of armed federal personnel into the city.   Those federal troops, rather than calming, escalated the situation, leading to deaths and violence. Illinois poet Vachel Lindsay…

In these troubled times, to my fellow white Americans

By Mike Matejka Our nation is at a unique watershed in human relations. African-Americans have been killed too many times in the past before George Floyd, but the response to this man’s death is international and all-encompassing. I was a grade-schooler during the Civil Rights 1960s. I watched Birmingham demonstrators hosed and the Selma – Montgomery…

Workers’ Memorial Day – Remember those whose job took their life

Looking around our community, when we say employer, most will respond to State Farm, Country, or Illinois State University.   We too often forget those who are building our roads, serving our food, or our public employees. COVID-19 has made us more aware of the risk.  Going to work every day for some people means…
