Redbird women hold off Oakland

NORMAL – After scoring the first 15 points of the game, the Illinois State women’s basketball squad never trailed in a 62-56 win over Oakland University on Thursday night on Doug Collins Court at Redbird Arena.

Illinois State (2-4) held the guests scoreless for nearly the first nine minutes of the game and led 18-5 after one quarter. ISU carried a 28-21 lead into halftime and led 48-32 after three quarters after Oakland (2-5) cut the margin to four points late in the period.

TeTe Maggett led the Redbirds with 20 points while Katrina Beck added 13 points and Simone Goods collected 11 points and 14 rebounds, a career high.

Myka Cromwell came off the bench to lead Oakland (2-5) with 13 points while Chloe Guingrich chipped in 11.

Illinois State returns to action at home on Tuesday with a 7 p.m. tip against Austin Peay.
