SPRINGFIELD – There won’t be a vote on a ride-sharing regulation bill, after all, during the fall veto session.
Everybody involved will aim for compromise for a new bill in the New Year. And you might as well call this bill the Lobbyists’ Full Employment Act. Sponsoring State Rep. Art Turner (D-Chicago) says there’s plenty riding on it.
“I just think it speaks to how important the issue it is,” Turner tells WJBC news. “There were many people hired to advocate for or against this measure. That speaks to how big it is and how important it is. When there are that many interested parties involved, there is a lot to be considered and thought of.”
Sticking points include how these transactions should be taxed and how insurance is supposed to work for car and driver.
If you need a car in Kane or DuPage Counties, you might rent one from a state lawmaker who has his Toyota Prius on the HyreCar app.
“What I have is an extra car that isn’t really worth a whole lot of money,” State Rep. Allen Skillicorn (R-East Dundee) says. “I decided, hey, I can rent this out when I’m not using it. I travel a lot with this job — obviously, I come down to Springfield quite a bit — and don’t have an opportunity to use it, so I let someone else basically leverage the depreciation on it.”
