LINCOLN – A truck driver is being held in the Logan County Jail accused of picking up a teenager in Texas, having sex with her, photographing and videotaping their sexual encounters before dropping her off on Interstate 55 near Lincoln.

Illinois State Police said the Logan County State’s Attorney will decide on formal charges to be filed against Javier Joiner, 24, of Arlington, Texas.

State Police said Joiner, an over-the-road trucker, met the teenager on social media and without authorization took her across state lines. He allegedly left her in Lincoln on December 6 after physically assaulting her when she tried to end the relationship.

Police placed the girl in the care of the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services, but Joiner reportedly contacted her and arranged to travel from Ohio to pick her up in Lincoln.

The State Police Zone Four Investigations Violent Crimes Unit, aided by Lincoln Police, arrested Joiner Friday on I-55 near Lincoln.

He’s been booked on felony charges of child pornography and traveling to meet a minor.

Illinois poet Vachel Lindsay…

In these troubled times, to my fellow white Americans

By Mike Matejka Our nation is at a unique watershed in human relations. African-Americans have been killed too many times in the past before George Floyd, but the response to this man’s death is international and all-encompassing. I was a grade-schooler during the Civil Rights 1960s. I watched Birmingham demonstrators hosed and the Selma – Montgomery…

Workers’ Memorial Day – Remember those whose job took their life

Looking around our community, when we say employer, most will respond to State Farm, Country, or Illinois State University.   We too often forget those who are building our roads, serving our food, or our public employees. COVID-19 has made us more aware of the risk.  Going to work every day for some people means…
