SPRINGFIELD – An incoming state representative says she has made enemies within her own party.
Anne Stava-Murray, a Democrat from Naperville, is coming to Springfield to be inaugurated next week and says fellow Democrats are bullying her because of her stance against Speaker Mike Madigan (D-Chicago). But she says you just have to get to know her.
“You know people like to talk,” she tells WJBC News, “so I have been reaching out to some of the people talking, who have said some negative things, that just don’t know me yet.”
She is calling for an investigation of State Rep. Marty Moylan (D-Des Plaines), whom she said grabbed both sides of her head and forcibly kissed the top of it during an orientation in November. She says the Capitol scene in Springfield is a “cesspool” and an “unhealthy work environment,” and that’s why she has already declared she will serve only one term in the Illinois House before taking on U.S. Sen. Dick Durbin (D-Ill.) in 2020.
Statewide? “I have a background in advertising, to be fair. I have quite a few capabilities in house without having to hire a consultant.” She says Durbin is more loyal to his donors than to his constituents.
As for getting legislation passed in the Capitol after accusing many of her new colleagues of bullying, she says she’ll put bills together and have other people sponsor them so Madigan does not banish them to the Rules Committee.
